Top 10 Shows You Should Watch When You Netflix and Chill

Our parents had drive-in theaters, but we have something better; Netflix. Welcome to MsMojo, and today, we’re counting our picks for the Top 10 Shows You Should Watch When You Netflix and Chill.

For this list, we’ll be looking at shows to watch with your significant other or that special hook-up that lend themselves to your being able to "chill" together. As much as we’d love to put “Masters of Sex” on here, it’s not available on Netflix so that and other similar series won’t make an appearance. And now, sit back, press play and get busy!

#10: “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” (1997-2003)

Here’s a good one for the night if either of you are feeling nostalgic. “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” is a horror fantasy drama about a high school girl that must come to terms with her destiny as a Slayer. Basically, this means she gets to hunt vampires, demons and other evil supernatural forces. As with most of Joss Whedon’s work, the story is great, but the focus is clearly on characters’ relationships, including the vampire romance between Buffy and Angel. The two share many intimate moments until the…err…”climax” of the second season, where the romantic, passionate vibes might get a little contagious. Things also get a little arousing in later seasons, particularly when Spike appears on screen, which makes for a memorable love triangle.

#9: “Scandal” (2012-)

“House of Cards” may have a few naughty bits here and there, but we have to give the crown for the sexiest politically charged series to “Scandal”. The thriller follows a young woman running a crisis management firm and trying to cover up political scandals – many involving the POTUS - along the way. And whew, does this show get steamy! No place is sacred here; people have sex on top of dirty photos, in the electrical room and even in the Oval Office. The setups are almost as tense as the sex itself, enough to make us feel a little dirty… but in a good way.

#8: “Mad Men” (2007-15)

It’s a sexy show about sexy people having sexy sex. Well, there’s more to it, of course. If you’ve (somehow) never heard of “Mad Men”, the period drama focuses on an advertising agency struggling to remain the top dog in 1960s New York City. Everyone in this show is just…gorgeous, especially Jon Hamm. Oooooohhh, that chiseled chin of his! “Mad Men” boasts some of the steamiest scenes in television. How many times are we subjected to such seductive imagery? Who’s counting and who cares? “Scandal” may be a little more aggressive about it, but “Mad Men” comes out on top for flair and, sometimes even creativity.

#7: “Chef’s Table” (2015)

You probably weren’t expecting a food documentary series to make a list like this, now, were you? While serving up a unique look on the lives of international chefs, “Chef’s Table” focuses on a big-name professional cook in every episode, recounting their personal history, the successes and failures in their careers, and their passion for the culinary arts. Like most shows involving food, watching this might cause you and your date to get a little hungry. What would be a more interesting way to spice up your hang out than cooking up a delicious meal together? Just a warning, though: you might find that it won’t be just your kitchen heating up later in the night… unless you left the oven on, that is.

#6: “American Horror Story” (2011-)

Horror, more often than not, is one of those go-to genres when you’re on a date. So, if you can’t find a scary movie, why not try a scary TV show? Since the turn of the 2010s, “American Horror Story” has been scaring the living crap out of audiences. We aren’t quite sure what it is about this anthology series that makes us keep coming back. Is it the gruesome and disturbing imagery? The psychopathic, murderous characters? Or maybe it just gives us a good excuse to snuggle up with someone who can make us feel a little bit safer. Yeah, let’s go with that one.

#5: “Easy” (2016-)

Now, be honest; who here found their date through Tinder? If you’re looking for a show that’s probably more than a little relatable to the topic at hand, look no further than “Easy”, a comedy anthology about different people coping with romance in modern times. Stories include a married couple looking for ways to spice up their sex life, a couple in search of a threesome, and a young actress dealing with a breakup. Because each episode follows different pairs of people, watching these is almost like going through several mini-movies. This gives you some good exit points, in case the two of you want to take a break and move things to the bedroom!

#4: “The Office” (2005-13)

Who doesn’t enjoy watching this series? Based on the UK version of the show that was created by famed comedian Ricky Gervais, “The Office” boasts some of the most unique, awkward humor to hit televisions in the early 2000s. As much as we love Dwight falling for yet another prank formulated by his colleagues, Michael Scott is what ties the show’s wackiness together. It’ll be hard for you and your date to keep a straight face between his incessant yelling and constant call-outs on innuendos. We should warn you that if you choose this show, then you should likely prepare for a night of sore cheeks and re-quoting. Might we suggest the “Hot Girl” episode for maximum Michael cringe?

#3: “How I Met Your Mother” (2005-14)

While being romantic in a nostalgic sense, this sitcom has had its fair share of hilarious and sexy hook-ups, particularly due to Barney and his “playbook” tactics. Some of the women in his bedroom included a bartender, a receptionist, his laser tag friend, and Zoey’s cousin. One of his sexual antics involved him pretending to be Ted. That’s kind of low-ball, man... With all the flings and sexual humor in this show, it’s hard not to think of “How I Met Your Mother” as an option for spending some quality time on the couch – or the bed - together.

#2: “Master of None” (2015-)

It’s been called a show that gives a “new definition of Netflix & Chill” so how could it not make the list? Created by and starring comedian Asiz Ansari, the series follows a rising actor who is simply trying to get through life. “Master of None” provides a colorful commentary on the way we date today as well as on common mishaps, such as a broken condom. Thankfully, every 30-minute episode, with its quick pacing, allows for easy exits, should action arise off screen. With its relatable subject matter and witty humor, “Master of None” will make you feel good with laughter… among other things.

Before we get to our top pick, here are a few Honorable Mentions:

“Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp” (2015)

“The Vampire Diaries” (2009-)

“New Girl” (2011-)

#1: “Friends” (1994-2004)

“How you doin’?” “Friends” is one of those shows that isn’t just great for background noise, but it’s also fun to watch, no matter how many episodes you’ve already seen. Its light-hearted attitude lets you know that you are in for a good time, but it also occasionally shows those sweet “slice of life” moments. Chances are you and your date are quite familiar with the sitcom and are maybe even able to quote specific moments. But that doesn’t really matter here; fFrom Joey Tribbiani’s idiotic moments to Ross’s crazy antics, “Friends” is a timeless show that gives off a pleasant atmosphere – plus if you’ve seen an episode already, you won’t have to worry about missing anything should you two get “distracted.”
