The CineFiles

Did you hear about Deadpool and those pirates? That non-existent Batman script? Or what about those Golden Globe things? No? We've got you covered. Welcome to The Cine-Files, a weekly show where we zoom in on the most buzz-worthy news Hollywood and the indie scene has to offer.

#3: Deadpool – The Most Pirated Movie of 2016

To call 'Deadpool' a success would be a gross understatement. As the highest grossing R-rated movie of all time worldwide, 'Deadpool' contributed to 2016’s record breaking $11.4 billion at the box office. So, it’s only fitting that Ryan Reynolds’ foulmouthed antihero rings in the new year with another, albeit odd, achievement ¬- most illegally downloaded movie of the year. According to the file sharing news site TorrentFreak, the information was collected from various sources, including public BitTorrent trackers. While TorrentFreak claims determining the exact number of illegal downloads may be too difficult, they do estimate that it’s in the millions. While we at WatchMojo would never condone such illegal activity, something tells us the cheeky Deadpool wouldn’t mind this news too much.

#2: Ben to Bail on Batman?

2016 was a rough year for DC, and 2017 isn’t starting off so great for them either. After starring as the caped crusader in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Ben Affleck was hired to direct and star alongside Joe Manganiello’s Deathstroke in a standalone Batman flick, titled 'The Batman.' But, in an interview with The Guardian, the Academy Award winner dropped a bomb when he said that the film was quote “not a set thing and there’s no script.” In addition to directing, Affleck is also a writer on the film, who happens to have an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay. If Ben does decide to leave the project, DC may suffer another massive blow to their comic book reputation.

Before we get to our final pick, be sure to check out these new releases.

#1: Countdown to the Golden Globes

Sharpen your pencils and print out your prediction sheets! The Golden Globes are nearly here! The Hollywood Foreign Press' picks are arguably the most important precursor heading into the Oscars, and it takes place this Sunday, January 8th, with Jimmy Fallon hosting the show. With 7 nominations, award season darling 'La La Land' seems poised to rack up the trophies, with Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling the odds on favourites for best actor and actress, while Damien Chazelle has a great chance at nabbing best director. Of course, Barry Jenkins’ work on 'Moonlight' is not to be underestimated, and Kenneth Lonergan continues to gain steam for his drama 'Manchester by the Sea.' With 14 highly competitive film categories including best picture, the 74th edition of the Golden Globes is sure to surprise and entertain!
