Top 10 New Girl Moments

Aren’t we all a little weird and quirky inside? Join MsMojo as we count down our picks for the Top 10 New Girl Moments.

For this list, we’re taking a look at the funniest, most loveable, awkward, and touching scenes from the first four seasons of this adorable hit series. Since great moments regularly appear in important episodes, we’re giving you fair warning: spoiler alert!

#10: Modeling

Oh, the struggles of looking beautiful. Of the many staples in a woman’s closet that make her steal glances as she walks down the street, none impose so much pain as the dreaded Stiletto. Haunting every awkward girl’s nightmares, saying these high heels are hard to walk in is an understatement, as Jess proves in this humiliating but hilarious scene. Jess is a stumbling mess as she tries to fill Cece’s shoes… literally. A graceless substitute model, she hardly makes it up the stairs, can’t balance on the very slowly rotating platform, and eventually locks herself in the car she’s displaying. Thanks for feeling our pain, Jess.

#9: Water Massage

Peaceful, relaxing, comfortable. None of these words describe Nick Miller’s first spa experience with his silent friend Tran. Seeking to rid himself of anger and become a more tolerant person, Nick trusts Tran to show him the way to tranquility. However, he did not realize the path to happiness consisted of stripping to his underwear, being held like a baby in the water, and allowing his wrinkly old friend to become very well acquainted with his body. But hey, if that’s what it takes to be happy, we say go for it.

#8: Cookie Debacle

Nick and Schmidt are complete opposites and the perfect odd couple, but somehow they’re best friends. In this episode, Schmidt surprises Nick with a cookie, just to show he thinks of him during the day. Nick, ever the man’s-man, can’t wrap his head around this bizarre concept. Still, he cares about Schmidt’s feelings enough to try a similar gesture. When Schmidt appears to reject the gift, Nick’s emotions get the better of him. Not used to expressing his feelings, he breaks down as he tries to show Schmidt he cares, and it is hilarious. Who knew a cookie could do so much damage.

#7: I Did Laundry

The back and forth chemistry between Jess and Nick has provided us with plenty of great moments, but this gem from season two has to be the funniest. When Nick makes the slightest effort to get his life together, Jess is driven wild with passion. Seriously, who doesn’t want a man with some drive? In this case, it might not be what you think. For Nick, being motivated simply means doing laundry, and the end result is fantastic. Nick is pleasantly surprised from the benefits, while Jess is fully turned on and can’t contain herself.

#6: Birthday Movie

A girl’s birthday is special, don’t try to tell her otherwise. For Jess, even she knows her expectations of others are too high. To avoid disappointment, she deliberately spends each birthday alone at the movies. Nick, however, has different plans… well one plan to be exact. He doesn’t realize he must fill a full day of activities, and scrambles to impress Jess in the build up to the real surprise. In the end, he comes through with a touching tribute to Jess that reduces her to tears of joy. It’s a beautiful moment where we see how much Nick truly cares for Jess.

#5: I Can’t Wait

Nick and Jess certainly have chemistry, but the real love story of this series is Schmidt and Cece. After learning she does in fact love him, Schmidt doesn’t waste a single second. He packs his things to go find Cece, only to find her waiting at his door. Max Greenfield and Hannah Simone display their dramatic acting talents as Schmidt professes his total love for Cece. In front of the entire apartment, he then proposes with the goofy charisma that first won Cece over. Epitomizing the ecstatic joy and complete vulnerability that romance imposes, this is a moment everybody hopes to someday experience.

#4: Winston’s Wedding Prank

There are plenty of hilarious Winston moments, but our favorites involve his brilliantly awful pranks. Enlisted to help Schmidt stop Cece’s wedding with Shivrang, his devious mind delivers on several terrible plans before landing on this one. The result reduces the gang to climbing around in the vents, chasing a loose badger, and literally crashing Cece’s wedding. Add in a cameo from Taylor Swift, and this makes for one hysterical wedding ceremony. Winston, we don’t know what you have planned next, but we’re on board if it’s anything like this masterpiece.

#3: Time of My Life

The heart of this show has always been Jess’s relationship with her roommates. She’s cute, quirky and weird, and they’re, well, men. In the series premiere, they want nothing to do with the emotional breakup that forced her into their arms, but they can’t help but care for the New Girl. They surprise her at the restaurant where she was abandoned on a date, and cheer her up by making fools of themselves. It’s both funny and touching, as the guys sacrifice their egos just to put a smile on her face.

#2: I Meant Something Like That

This episode marked the inaugural playing of the first Strip True American, for which we’ll be forever thankful, but it’s this Jess and Nick moment that stole the show. After being locked in the closet until they kissed, Nick climbs out the window to avoid enduring one little smooch. Later, he shows that he wanted their first kiss to be magical. He powerfully grabs Jess and they share a passionate kiss that takes her breath away and sweeps her off her feet. It was the inevitable kiss they deserved; the kind you only get from a true love.

Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions.
• I Break For Birds

• Voices

• Jess Meets Geauxinue

• First Douchebag Jar

• Broken Penis

#1: Janky Freshwater Bitch Fish

When you can’t get what you want, get the next best thing, right? Schmidt takes that theory to a whole new extreme when he decides to replace Cece with a rare California lion fish. The only problem is he can’t find one. Winston tries to cheer him up with a clown fish, but gets rejected in true Schmidt fashion. Wearing a very silly fish hat, Schmidt unleashes a colorful verbal attack without hesitation. It’s the kind of moment that has allowed Greenfield to thrive as Schmidt, earn Golden Globe and Emmy nominations, and become arguably this show’s most beloved character.
