Top 10 Obscene Movie Insults

Did he…? Did she…? Did they really just say that?? Yes they did, and aren’t we glad of it! Welcome to WatchMojo.com, and today we’re counting down our picks for the top 10 obscene movie insults.

For this list, we’re focusing on the crudest cinematic slurs out there. Insults are all manner of things, but to make this list they have to be foul, rude and obscene all at the same time. And, if can’t get enough verbal abuse, check out our Top 10 Funniest Movie Insults and our Top 10 Memorable Movie Insults for more invectives. As for this clip, we should warn you: there’s adult language ahead.

#10: What’s My Name?
“Glengarry Glen Ross” (1992)

Dumb question? Sure. Sharp answer? Definitely. As the motivator brought in to talk some sense into a group of failing and flailing salesmen, Alec Baldwin leaves nothing in doubt for our first entry. A simple answer to an even simpler question. It’s quick, it’s callous, it’s downright effective! It cuts to the bone and stays for the night. Selling real estate is difficult, but dealing with this abuse, well that takes real brass balls!

#9: Cripple
“Bad Santa” (2003)

He’d never make it as a gift card writer, but he’s on this list with flying colors! A couple of crooks play the Santa con at malls across the country to earn a big score on Christmas Eve. Tony Cox plays Santa’s elf, but Santa’s not as merry as he should be. This diatribe starts as a pep-talk, and ends as a putdown – leaving the big guy to stew within his soiled soul. Season’s Greetings they sure ain’t, but it has us choking back our turkey, and covering grandma’s ears!

#8: Shit, Shit & More Shit
“Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back” (2001)

With this elegant equation Jay has us as lost for words as his faithful, silent companion. We’re struck dumb partly due to the profanity, but mostly because we’re trying to figure out exactly how it would work… It’s a sloppy cycle of first-rate vulgarity aimed directly at internet commenters, and it stains your mind but you feel better for it. Jay’s insulting for two and he’s going on a bender – it’s wonderful to witness.

#7: Something in Your Eye
“Scarface” (1983)

Pacino roars into our top ten with style, aplomb and a Cuban accent. Elvira’s dancing, she’s hot, but she isn’t putting out. But when she insinuates that Tony might have criminal intentions – that’s when she’s gone too far. The barely-there dress can’t cover the look on her face, and Montana lets her know it. She’s on fire. He’s on fire. We’re all on fire with this classic quip! And who’d have guessed it? The pickup line worked.

#6: Squat
“The Mist (2007)

Delivered with poise and precision, this insult is loud and proud, clear and crude. It’s not obscenity for obscenity’s sake – it is real, no holds barred hatred. Though she’s one of many paralyzed by a mysterious mist her town, this religious zealot will not be condescended to. The lowering of her tone goes beyond the toilet seat, through the u-bend and into the sewer. A squat to savor, it’s verbal diarrhea and it’s untreatable. It’s our number 6 – and a smash hit from the cesspit!

#5: The C Word
“In Bruges” (2008)

Poor Harry. It’s not every day that someone has the c-bomb dropped on them five times in as many seconds… And to bring his kids into it too? What have they ever done?? Expertly delivered by Brendan Gleeson with a tone usually reserved for the weather forecast, his point is far from mild. The working relationship between this hit man and his boss is far from cordial. But this exchange is classic and crude to the max – just don’t mention the kids next time!

#4: Idi Amin
“Sexy Beast” (2000)

It takes a lot to keep Ray Winstone quiet, but even he has nothing to say to this. A retired ex-con, he’s out of the game and living in Spain. When approached to do a heist he respectfully declines, only to be met with this tirade of abuse. His adversary, Don, is particularly incensed by his newfound vanity, especially the suntan, and after a few choice words, turns his red face even redder.

#3: Afterbirth
“There Will Be Blood” (2007)

Boiled down to pure biology, this insult is harsh, hard, and fundamentally foul. Plainview is close to the end, in his words he’s ‘finished’ – and with this, he bows out with a bang. An insult that’s a long time coming for this oil prospector and his opportunist prey, it squirms in onomatopoeic squalor: Eli’s nothing more than refuse and his brother, Paul, has beaten him. He’s the inferior twin, the lowest of the low, a wretched waste of human life.

#2: Brain Hole
“Grosse Pointe Blank” (1997)

Perhaps the most threatening of all our obscenities, Dan Aykroyd’s Grocer guns down his adversary with some quick-fire scare tactics. Competitors in the killing biz, who see things a little differently, they verbally spar – but one side comes out on top. As if a shot to the head wouldn’t be enough, this graphic gripe brings to mind a quite disturbing mental image. We’re left to pick our jaws up from where they’ve just dropped. It ain’t classy, but it is a classic!

Before we let our top pick loose, here are a few honorable mentions:
- Yo Mama “The Exorcist” (1973)
- Thundercunt “Blade: Trinity” (2004)
- Self-censorship “In the Loop” (2009)
- You Know How I Know You’re Gay? “The 40-Year-Old Virgin” (2005)

#1: Your Wife
“The Last Boy Scout” (1991)

This Bruce Willis wisecrack has it all – it’s clever, crass and goddamn gutsy! With a gun to the head most of us would say our prayers… but not Joe Hallenbeck: he buys time by running through some wife jokes. He barely breaks a sweat as he lets the would-be killer know just how grotesque his old gal really is. That Willis turns the tables straight afterwards makes it all the more perfect!
