Vladimir Putin Biography: Russian Leader's Life and Career
Born October 7th, 1952 in what is now St. Petersburg, Russia, Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin joined the Russian intelligence agency known as the KGB upon his graduation from university. After his time as a spy, he began his rise to political prominence as part of Leningrad mayor Anatoly Sobchak’s government. He then joined Russian President Boris Yeltsin in Moscow at the Kremlin, and by 1999 became the Prime Minister and soon the acting President of Russia. During his time in power, he helped restore the Russian economy, but has also been criticized by some for corruption.
