Born January 9th, 1913 in Yorba Linda, California, Richard M. Nixon started his political career as a Republican congressman. He parlayed his popularity to a shot at the vice presidency alongside Dwight Eisenhower, and continued charming the nation with his frank talk and foreign policy successes. After losing the presidential race in 1960 to John F. Kennedy, many thought his political career was over. However, in 1968 he was elected the 37th President of the United States. Despite his many accomplishments, Nixon is probably best remembered as the face of the embarrassing Watergate scandal, and he stepped down as president on August 9th, 1974.
