City: Nagano
Country: Japan

The capital city of the Nagano Prefecture, Nagano rose to prominence by virtue of hosting the 1998 Winter Olympic Games. The city also went on to host the 1998 Winter Paralympics and the 2005 Special Olympics World Winter Games; in the process becoming the the first city to host all three events.

The city resides on the island of Honshu and is nestled between the Chikuma River and the Sai River. The city rose around the 7th century Buddhist temple, Zenkō-ji, but it was officially founded April 1, 1897.
