Country: Morocco

The largest city in Morocco, it is the principal port of Morocco and accounts for more than half of Morocco's industrial production. The cities population is 2.95 million and it is located on the western side of Morocco.  In the 19th century the cities population began to grow as it became a major supplier of wool to Britain’s booming textile industry. Morocco was under French rule until 1956, but French architecture remains, and can be seen best in the French Period New Town in Casablanca designed by Henri Prost. Casablanca is also the home to the Hassan II Mosque.
