Professors: the Good, Bad and the Ugly

The Ugly

The ugly ones are those that after years of repeating the same thing become almost bitter and sarcastic. What role they play has a lot to do with what kind of students they "teach." Confident students tend to see these professors as a challenge, a hurdle to overcome in their quest for growth, success and happiness. Sadly, less confident students tend to see their development damaged by ugly teachers. Sometimes, much needed grades are not earned as a result of a combination of teacher inaptitude and student apathy. Ugly professors view students as burdens. Such professors feel that they could be doing more and take it out on students. This teacher has no control even though he is usually the only one to talk. Students do not feel the need to share their views as this incites cynicism from the professor. Interestingly, the professor lacks respect and control although he feels that he has it. Some of these individuals could do great things and benefit from a turnaround by working in industry, but they do not make the jump: either out of fear or complacency.
