Traveling
After Graduation
Should I Stay Or Should I Go?
Another
question that comes up either while in school,
upon graduation
or after your trip is whether or not you
wish to stay in your hometown, your school
city or go to a new area and start fresh.
Here are some of the questions to ask yourself,
along with some factors you should be aware
of and how to go about making the call.
Want To Settle
Down Or Move Up?
Whenever you move into
a new environment, you need to settle down
and get accustomed. So if you move to Detroit
to work for a carmaker, you will spend most
of your initial time finding a place and
discovering the city. This is a great experience,
but you have to work on getting to work
on time before moving up in no time.
Pay
Not
all salaries are created equal. A six-digit
salary in New York City is not what it looks
like. If your goal is to build wealth, getting
a job in a city with a better cost of living
may make more sense. Of course, if you manage
to save 10% of your salary each and every
year, you just might want to get the highest
salary possible.
Expenses

out what the costs of rent, food and transportation
will be in your destination city. Check
out the classified section of local newspapers
to get the inside scoop.
Culture,
Religion
Salt Lake City may be great,
but if your personality is more Dennis Rodman
than Brigham Young, you may be better off
passing on Utah.
Settling In The
New City Or Mixing It Up In Your Career
The choice is yours. Shaking
it up in your career will build a foundation
that is stable. Setting up in a new city
will cause some chaos at the outset. If
you wish to move away but options abound
at home, you may be better served by settling
for a local gig and have the employer pay
for relocation down the road.
Whatever
you choose to do, the key is to study your
potential new city first to make sure that
you know what you will be getting yourself
into. |
