Seeing
Beyond, Seizing The Opportunity, Winning
And Staying On Top
Imagine you are playing
hockey and time is counting down. You are
down by one goal and the third period is
ticking away. You are eager to grab the
puck and make something happen, whether
you set someone up for a goal or score yourself.
What bothers you more:
knowing that you are about to lose or the
fact that you were on the ice for 20 minutes
of the game and controlled the puck for
a meager 4 of those 20 minutes? This scenario
is typical in the game of hockey, with a
fast pace and line changes.
With a couple of minutes
left, you see the puck trickle to the boards.
Your coach has told you never to leave your
position at center. But you know that you
can skate in, scoop the puck and break in
front of the net. You see the play unfold
the way Wayne Gretzky would.
What do you do? Do you
listen to what your coach said or do you
break from the pack, hit the corner, take
a hit and go in for the tie?
It
depends on the game. If you are up by a
goal, you should never sacrifice victory
for a personal statistic. But you are losing
now. For that reason, why wait for someone
else to take control of the puck if you
know it is there for the taking? Go for
it.
The
analogy here is that you need to do what
is right for the greater good. But you must
also take
charge and be in control of your destiny.
