Searching
For Work: Being On The Lookout
The
search for
work begins by asking around. Your classmates
are in the same boat as you but alumni,
colleagues, parents and older siblings may
have networks you can tap into. Even retired
people, including teachers, neighbors and
grandparents may have key contacts. They
are wise and their input can be useful.
Hit corporate websites
and see which firms are hiring, which have
fresh postings and which have not updated
their sites in a while. Keep one thing in
mind however: a company can have a dozen
openings at any given time and post none
online. Are they trying to hide them from
you? Doubtful, as they likely receive so
many résumés on a given day
that they se no need to post online.
A
good reason to check corporate websites
is to read the Press sections. Often new
leadership, restructuring or even layoffs
signal that the firm is looking for new
talent. If you think you can contribute,
show
confidence and apply.
