Presentation

PowerPoint Or Slides

PowerPoint is a great tool and sometimes a prerequisite, but slides are safer and provide students with far more control. Sometimes professors demand PowerPoint to see how well you manage the software. Conversely, some professors want little downtime between presentations so they opt for traditional overhead slides.

In individual presentations, PowerPoint is fine because control is in your hands and not other classmates. In group presentations, you need extra preparation and practice to time the PowerPoint presentation. The advantage is consistency in everything from the background to the font as well as the content layout.

Ask the teacher in private what they prefer. Giving them what they want is better anyway. In business, companies that ask for submissions, pitches and proposals usually provide specifications of what they want. Start early by finding out what that is (in Marketing, potential clients ask for Request For Proposals, aka RFPs, that you submit in the hope of getting their business).

Whatever you choose to do, make sure that you get enough practice with PowerPoint as you will be expected to be able to use it in any job or setting once you get out of school.
