Military Education
Some
of you may be interested in serving your
country and getting an education at the
same time.
The
military is a great way to earn a solid
degree, build your character and do so in
a smart financial way. This is not for everyone
of course, so make sure you know what you
are getting yourself into.
Boxing
great Joe Louis, baseball legend Ted Williams
and Academy Award-winning director Oliver
Stone are three examples of men who served
in the military. Louis served in the Army
during World War II and even fought and
defeated German boxer Max Schmelling in
a symbolic bout.
Williams twice interrupted his career with
the Boston Red Sox to serve as a pilot in
the United States Marine Corps – serving
in both World War II and the Korean War.
Finally,
Stone served in Vietnam. The experiences
formed the foundation for his trilogy of
films: Platoon (1986), Born on the Fourth
of July (1989) and Heaven and Earth (1993).
These
are just some examples of people who started
off in the military and ended up enjoying
successful - albeit unconventional
- careers later on in life.
