MUSIC EXPERIENCE 2005 - UPDATED LINE-UP
ANNOUNCED;
QUEENS
OF THE STONE AGE ADDED TO MEMPHIS BILL
As the final plans are being put in place
for this year’s VOODOO MUSIC EXPERIENCE,
festival organizers have released the updated--though
not final--artist line-up. Both days of
this year’s two-day, two-city concert
event will be headlined by Nine Inch Nails.
In addition, Queens of the Stone Age--who
were on the New Orleans bill--have committed
to both shows. Saturday’s New Orleans
show will be held at Riverview Park (behind
the Audubon Zoo) and doors open at 9:00
AM with the first performers taking the
stage at 10:30 AM. On Sunday at Memphis’
AutoZone Park, gates open at 10:00 AM with
live music beginning at 10:45 AM. In addition,
in the days leading up to Sunday’s
Memphis concert, local residents can enjoy
a bit of New Orleans music via the free
“Southern Comfort Presents Voodoo
on Beale Street” concert series which
will take place from Thursday-Sunday at
the Beale Street Stage in downtown’s
Handy Park.
“As
the birthplace of jazz, New Orleans is a
city built on the foundation of music. The
Voodoo Music Experience is a meaningful
way of thanking the people who are helping
to bring New Orleans back. The concert will
lift the spirit of our people and bring
music back to our lives,” said Mayor
C. Ray Nagin.

Originally
set to take place in its home of New Orleans’
City Park, the VOODOO MUSIC EXPERIENCE--known
for its eclectic and intriguing mix of top-tier
artists, iconic musicians, indie performers
and local New Orleans favorites--was displaced
in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. This
marks the first time in VOODOO MUSIC EXPERIENCE’s
seven-year history that the concert will
take place in two cities and will serve
as fund-raising event for those affected
by Hurricane Katrina.
Monies
raised from the Memphis concert will benefit
the New Orleans Restoration Fund (NORF).
NORF has been established as a donor-advised
fund of Entertainment Industry Foundation
(EIF) to support organizations dedicated
to the restoration of New Orleans. Its mission
is to provide for the basic human needs
of the people of New Orleans and to also
ensure that the cultural vitality and artistic
identity of the city endure. NORF will support
both national humanitarian organizations
and local, grass-roots organizations directly
committed to rebuilding the culture. NORF
acknowledges the unique identity of New
Orleans and is committed to cultivating
and supporting these organizations that
help the community to flourish.
The
Audubon Nature Institute--among the groups
who will receive a donation--is a private,
not-for-profit member organization with
a collection of world-class family institutions
dedicated to “Celebrating the Wonders
of Nature.” More than three million
people each year visit Audubon facilities
in New Orleans. Audubon operates the following
facilities: Audubon Zoo, Audubon Aquarium
of the Americas, Entergy IMAX Theatre, Audubon
Park, Woldenberg Riverfront Park, Audubon
Louisiana Nature Center, Audubon Center
for the Research of Endangered Species,
Freeport McMoRan Audubon Species Survival
Center, Audubon Wilderness Park and Audubon
Insectarium (scheduled to open in 2006).
