Biography:

James Douglas "Jim" Morrison was an American singer, songwriter and poet and was the lead singer for the Doors.

He studied film in college, but throughout his life he was always very intelligent and drawn to the study of literature, poetry, religion and philosophy. He created the Doors with Ray Manzarek, who was a friend from film school, around the year 1966. They started to gain popularity with the song “Light my Fire”, and were soon playing the Ed Sullivan show.

Their blend of blues, jazz, rock and pyschedelia combined with Morrison’s complex and intense lyrics found an enthralled audience that didn’t know what hit them. The spotlight began to take its toll on Morrison and his drug use and alcohol abuse was getting out of hand. The band looked like it was about to crumble, but then bounced back with what would prove to be their most popular album in L.A. Woman.

Morrison’s death has been a constant source of confusion for fans, with some saying he overdosed and some claiming it was heart failure, which was the official report, and others claim it was foul play. Jim Morrison was a member of the so-called Club of 27 - the artists who perished at the age of 27, including Morrison, Kurt Cobain, Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin, and many more.
