Jimmy Carter was born October 1st, 1924 in Plains, Georgia. After turning his family’s peanut farm into a booming operation, he began a political career, and eventually became Governor of Georgia. Carter was known as a symbol for good government, and because of this – and his status as a Washington outsider – he was elected president in 1976. Unfortunately, Carter’s reputation suffered due to scandal and his inability to make things happen, and he was not elected to a second term.
