Top 10 Marvel Cinematic Universe Easter Eggs

Keep your eyes peeled or you might just miss these marvels. Welcome to WatchMojo.com, and today we are counting down our picks for the top 10 Easter eggs in the Marvel cinematic universe. For this list, we are only focusing on hidden images and messages with the Avengers oriented universe.

#10: Lou Ferrigno Cameo “The Incredible Hulk” (2008)

Remember that security guard that Edward Norton called awesome? Well, to those who are new to the Marvel Universe, let us fill you in. That was a cameo by none other than Lou Ferrigno, the actor who greened himself up to play the Hulk on the small screen back in the late-70s. Even after all these years, it iss great to see that the rookies and veterans can still come together to create what we consider one of Marvels best films.

#9: Donald Blake “Thor” (2011)

This one is for those who know their comic book history. Trying to keep his identity secret while on Earth, Jane Foster gives Thor the clothes and keycard of her ex-boyfriend, Dr. Donald Blake. But this was not a random name choice: in the early comics, Thor had a human alter ego of the same name. Eventually it was dropped in favor of the Thunder God we all know and love, but it is nice to see filmmakers giving a nod to their source material.

#8: S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Map “Iron Man 2” (2010)

At the end of the second “Iron Man” outing, you may have noticed a large, digital map in the background; however you may not have paid it much mind because you were distracted by the combined star power of Robert Downey, Jr. and Samuel L. Jackson. But, during a second viewing, with a quick pause here and there, the map just might show you the current locations of characters like Hulk, Thor and Cap, and also Black Panther and Namor.

#7: Fin Fang Foom “Iron Man 2” (2010)

You will have to squint to catch this one. In the far background during one of Iron Mans flying scenes is a poster advertising a movie called Fin Fang Foom. This is another reference to comic lore, as that is a genuine Iron Man villain. Fin Fang Foom was a giant dragon from outer space that once assisted the Mandarin. We are not making this up, and we can only hope he’ll show up in a bigger role soon.

#6: ‘60s Iron Man Theme “Iron Man” (2008)

You do not need your eyes for this one, only your ears. At a few select times throughout the film, the ingenious filmmakers decide to slip in a slightly remixed version of familiar tune: the classic 60s cartoon theme of the “Iron Man” cartoon. Need more? Just listen to Rhodeys ringtone for proof.

#5: Super Soldier Serum “The Incredible Hulk” (2008)

We all know the serum that gave Captain America him superhuman physique and prowess. Well, apparently the American military managed to get their hands on a few extra samples, because that is what they are pumping into Hulk antagonist Emil Blonsky. Oh yeah, he is also known as the Abomination, and he is just about the only guy who can come close to the Hulk in terms of destructive abilities. That is some powerful serum.

#4: The Ten Rings “Iron Man” (2008)

We all remember the iconic terrorists who capture Tony Stark at the beginning of the film; y’know, the ones who get barbecued during his escape. Did you catch their name? This is a blatant reference to Iron Man’s archenemy, the Mandarin. No, not that one. We mean the Chinese warlord who possesses ten rings that grant him various, deadly powers. While it’s a shame that the Mandarin doesn’t have a direct link to them in this movie, fanboys sure appreciate the inclusion.

#3: The Infinity Gauntlet “Thor” (2011)

There are a lot of dangerous objects in Odin’s Trophy Room, including the Tablet of Life and Time, the Warlock’s Eye and a whole bunch of other goodies. But the one that catches our eye the most is the Infinity Gauntlet, also known as that large golden glove covered in jewels. Said to grant its wearer godlike powers, it’s also the target of Avengers’ villain Thanos. We have a feeling this is going to play a much bigger part in later Marvel films.

#2: Captain America’s Shield “Iron Man” (2008) / “Iron Man 2” (2010)

Before the idea of an Avengers film even entered fans’ minds, this Easter egg worked them into a frenzy. If you look closely in the background on one of Tony Stark’s desks you’ll see the half-completed shield of Captain America. In the sequel, we were given a much more blatant reveal in this scene. This is when we knew that the Marvel movie-verse was going to get a lot more exciting.

#1: Stan Lee Cameos All Marvel Films

The godfather of comics doesn’t shy away from the spotlight, and we as fans have come to love and actively look for his cameos in every Marvel film. And while there are a lot of highlights, we have to say his funniest and most memorable have definitely come from the Avengers timeline of films. Whether it’s played for laughs or whether he’s there to add to our enjoyment of what is already a fantastic flick, Stan Lee is always a welcome addition. We love you Stan.
