Originally planned to be titled the "DirectX Box", before just going with Xbox, the system sold a total of 24 million units worldwide, with 16 million sold in North America alone. Though it struggled against the PS2, for a first time system it was revolutionary as it standardized online multiplayer on consoles through its Xbox Live service.
