FOCUS
If
anyone asks me for advice these days, I
tell them to focus on one thing, do it well,
and then once you are content with yourself
and have pushed yourself to the limit, begin
to examine doing something else.
Too
many wise men end up doing too many things.
For all their wisdom they lack virtue.
Virtue,
according to Plato, was realizing what you
excelled in, where you held a comparative
advantage, specialized in the area and focused
on that.
For
if everyone would pursue this path, then
society would consist of many great men,
not just one.
Would
I have been great at everything? I do not
know. I cannot be the judge of that. But
I can be the judge of some things: the things
I did well.
Those
things included envisioning a greater world
empire, recruiting the best men for the
job, laying out a strategy, detailing out
a tactical plan and then motivating those
around me to get the job done.
I
focused on that.
How
did I execute that? I could anticipate,
react and adapt better than anyone.
Sure,
maybe I stretched myself too thin, but I
needed to do so in order to create my world
empire and fulfil my destiny, which was
to be King of Kings.
