The world was changing
and it was all thanks to me.
But it was not changing
fast enough. Only partially did my dream
of a universal Global Empire, based on Greek
civilization come to be.
I longed for more. I was
not content still.
Eventually I adopted Greek
as the universal language throughout the
empire. Too many mistakes were being made
due to transactions being done through interpreters.
Subsequently, education
progressed rapidly as Babylonian scholars
shared knowledge with Greek philosophers.
Mathematics, science and astronomy followed
suit.
But other than language,
I stressed local flavors. I even took to
wearing Persian clothing consisting of a
long robe, a cape, sash and a headband in
the royal purple and white colors.
Guess where purple dye
comes from? Tyre. What do you call that,
irony?
Nowhere was my local outreach
program more profound than with matters
of the heart. In one city, I married Roxana.
She was the daughter of a local chieftain
and helped me foster better relations with
the local ruler.
I went on to have three
wives: Stateira, Barsine and Roxana. At
one point, I had three hundred sixty-five
concubines. And to think that growing up,
my father was concerned about my lack of
displays for heterosexual affection. I was
busy plotting world domination.
Once I had the power and
the money, then I could think of women.
Was I marrying for love
or for political posturing? Who married
for love? Do they do it in your era? Cause
they rarely did in mine!
