My father had built up
an impressive army, but I knew how to leverage
it best. I led my army throughout the entire
known world over the next twelve years.
Small
in frame: tall in vision
Unlike
the Greeks, us Macedonians benefited from
grazing land, and as such, were better nourished.
Nonetheless, I stood at five foot seven
inches. Mind you, men were smaller in size
during my days, but still, I was not exactly
a tall fellow. So don’t let shortcomings
stand in your way.
From an early age, I wanted to overcome
challenges that my otherwise small frame
would pose.
I was well built and quite
the runner, like my hero Achilles. However,
I refused to race with anyone other than
a king. I could not lower myself to a common
denominator. I recognized my value and never
underestimated myself.
Despite
my competitive streak, I never cared much
for athletic contests… after all I
had a world to conquer!
If there had been no other competition,
I would have competed against myself. While
everyone seeks to win, few strive to do
so at practically any cost. I would. Some
of my denigrators say that I nearly bankrupted
the Greek Empire by fighting too many wars
in too far off lands. Nonsense!
Had I focused solely on the city-states,
I would have resorted to simply carving
up the pie into more pieces. By looking
abroad, I enlarged the pie. I made the pie
higher!
