The capital of Tunisia, it is situated on the northern part of the country on the Gulf of Tunis. The city of Tunis has a population of 700, 000 (according to a 2003 census), which is a tenth of the population of Tunisia, it is also the business and political headquarters of the country. The center of the city is known as the “Medina” and can be described as a maze of alley’s and covered passages that are home to vendors selling everything from food to small crafts to tourist items.
