Analyst Michael Patcher finally takes another look into his crystal ball.
Nintendo hasn’t gone on a limb to disclose the price of their upcoming 3D handheld, but that isn’t stopping videogame industry analyst Michael Pachter from giving his predictions on the device’s eventual pricing.
According to Pachter, the Nintendo 3DS is likely to be sold for $249 in the US. Considering that the current handheld (the Nintendo DSi) currently retails for $169.99, many are calling this a considerable price hike.
Actually, if Pachter’s prediction is even close, that places it $50 more costly then a new 4GB Xbox 360 console, and $50 cheaper then a 120GB PS3 Slim console.
I don’t know about you, but my portable gaming habit comes second to the home consoles. As a result, I never spend more on that device then the one attached to my large HDTV at home.
Here’s exactly what Patcher had to say:
“Due to the unique 3DS experience previewed by Nintendo at E3 this year, we believe Nintendo will be able to sell millions of units even at a price of upwards of $250.”
My Translation: Nintendo can and will milk you yet again because it can. They know that 3D is cool.
Does this seem a little too steep to you? It has already been predicted that the games on the console will average a few dollars more per piece. Does this temper your enthusiasm for a glasses-free gaming experience?
