sony-3d-tv-slider.jpg You can now choose how 3D your games are.

Who would have thunk it? Sony is yet again taking a ‘monkey see, monkey do’ approach to game making. First it was the use of the now standard Analog stick, then rumble, motion controls… and now the notion of allowing the user to adjust the level of 3D being displayed in a game.

In all fairness, its the developers that are pushing Sony into following suit behind Nintendo’s own upcoming 3DS console.

Here’s an example of what I’m talking about… Remember Sly Cooper, that stealth action PS2 game you used to play, well its getting remastered for a PS3 re-release in November, and to get you to buy it again its developers wants to add 3D and the slider option to enable the control of depth perception.

Unlike the Nintendo 3DS which has an auto-stereoscopic screen that doesn’t require glasses, Sly Cooper 3D would still require the use of 3D-enabling shades and an expensive 3D TV set.

Still, this 3D slider option makes a whole lot of sense. With it, users will have the final say in controlling the factors which cause eye-strain, headaches and nausea. With the responsibility placed on the end user, companies will have less legal liabilities.

Even now Sony has been adding new legal jargon to its 3D user documents and manuals in an attempt to pre-opt a legal backlash from the consumers that experience 3D-related eye-strain. And believe me, that is a whole new dimension of pain.
