Are you ready for an upgrade from the hardware gods? Well, whether or not your wallet can afford one, its apparently coming sooner then you might think.

Here’s what we know about the device: the Nintendo DS 2 will again carry two screens, but they’ll be much high res, and placed much closer to the hinge. This will be done to form the look of one screen for better gameplay and less jarring cut scenes. Hopefully they’ll be widescreen as well. Square displays are so 2004.

The DS 2 is also rumored to contain Nvidia Tegra or Tegra 2 graphics. Though this hasn’t been confirmed. However, developers have revealed that the early units they have been testing could rival the Nintendo GameCube console in terms of 3D graphics (wheras the PSP rivals the PS2), and Nintendo’s new handheld is proving extremely very easy to develop for.

In fact, many have hinted that Nintendo DS 2 games might be completed before the end of the year.

Could a launch come as early as next Christmas?

How do you feel about this news? Ready to trade in your Nintendo Dsi or Ds Lite yet? I’m considering it, even though I just traded in my first gen white DS-Lite with a hinge Crack for a sparkly new blue Ds-Lite (The DSi doesn’t do anything for me).

Here’s another less likely fan prediction of the console.
