Are you a fan of hockey video games? Do you own a Wii and feel down that HD versions exist on every other home console? Well guess, what…they won’t next year! For everyone else, bad news awaits.
Take-Two has announced that they’re taking a year off from releasing a hockey game on the Xbox 360 or PS3 for the upcoming year. In an effort to take a breather from the never-ending yearly updates they would rather modify existing assets to save money bring Wii owners a little love.
I personally never saw a need for yearly updates to any sports game. As soon as the next year comes out, the previous title become $1.99 in the bargain bin. That would normally tickle me, but who wants an old hockey game? It’s like reading last week’s newspaper!
I suggest that they retool the franchise to bring it into the 21st century. This means releasing an update only once every 3-4 years with downloadable content and updates to keep things fresh. A nice free update would be to refresh the player roster free of charge every hockey season.
Also, stop putting the date in the bloody title! Any game that stamps their freshness on the package dies a horrible retail death within months of release. Look at non official sports games like Mario Kart…imagine Mario Kart Wii was titled “Mario Kart 2008″…does that smell fresh? It’s no wonder that the game still maintains it’s retail markup, not that I’m an advocate of such things…
I’m just saying that in the long run it’s cheaper/ better for both parties to have one version every so often with free and chargeable downloadable content…
