Over the holidays Capcom was faced with a new disappointing reality, as their new on rails shooter Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles failed to move from retail shelves since it’s release in December. The game sold so badly that it’ll probably be making it’s way to a bargain bin very shortly, despite many positive reviews.

You may be wondering how poorly it sold? Well can you imagine that only 16,000 copies were purchased during the holiday shopping season! Just compare that to Resident Evil 4 on the Wii, a Gamecube port which moved a respectable 140,000 units.

In response to the data, Capcom France’s executive producer Antoine Seux has raised industry eyebrows with his comments on the matter: “One feels that there is a problem very clear on this style of game on the Wii, where gamers are obviously moved on” and that “the customer of this console has turned to something much broader audience. It is a disappointment.”

Does this mean the end of mature rated games on the Wii from the developer? Maybe the next Wii-based Resident Evil will be a party game to please the new casual crowd.
God help us all.

Here’s the trailer for The Darkside Chronicles, it’s not too late for you to do your part and make Capcom change their minds!

Nintendo is thinking next steps for its explosively successful handheld platform, as Nintendo president Satoru Iwata talks to Japanese media about what the successor to the Nintendo DS may look like.

“[It will have] highly detailed graphics, and it will be necessary to have a sensor with the ability to read the movements of people playing,” Iwata told Asahi Shimbun, as translated by consumer weblog Kotaku.

But Iwata also emphasized it’s too early to discuss plans for the new hardware, as the extant DS hit all-time highs in 2009. For the time being, according to the report, Nintendo’s focusing on adding more wireless hotspots for DS and expanding its partnership with McDonalds.
