Canada is home to a large quantity of oil sands, otherwise known as tar sands. It is only recently that these particular oil reserves became available to the world, because of the intense effort and energy expenditure required to mine it. Enormous amounts of water are also required to mine the tar sands, and so fresh water reserves in the area are dwindling. Venice is underwater again today, after tides yesterday caused the worst flood the city has seen in twenty years.  Travellers and locals waded through the city wearing high boots.  Strong southerly winds have been causing the Adriatic Sea to flood the lagoon city.  Read more… continue reading...
