The Google ad that played at this year’s super bowl is my new favorite commercial!
There were no special effects, no celebrity names or fancy camera work. Google was able to take an every day activity, like searching online, to produce a love story.
I’m sure every girl was imagining their man doing the same thoughtful and romantic searches on-line for them- causing the “aww” reaction from all the ladies watching.
In case you missed it, watch it below:
Landing on the cover of Sports Illustrated is one of the best things to happen for an athletes career.
If you’re a woman like Olympic skier Lindsey Vonn it can be considered an even greater achievement since over the “over the last 60 years researchers have shown that about 4% of all SI covers have portrayed women.”
The pose of Vonn which resembles the “tuck” pose that a skier would normally take when competing is stirring up some controversy, with some saying that this position objectifies Vonn rather than appreciate her athletic ability.
This seems to be ridiculous! Yes, the tuck may be somewhat exaggerated, but not by much and she is fully dressed! This would probably not even have been an issue had she not been beautiful…
As a matter of fact, another skier was featured in a very similar pose in 1992 SI Winter issue with no issues.
This one comes to us from Ken Wheaton over at AdAge.
I love when a brand with deep roots in their community comes out to support their local heros. In this case… it’s the Louisiana original, Tabasco Sauce with a brilliant ad to rally up the troops and the fans for this coming Sunday’s Superbowl match up between the Indianapolis Colts and the New Orleans Saints. The copy is some of the most timely and appropriate I’ve ever seen.
“You’ll forgive a wee bit of bias here, won’t you? Not that you have a choice. The Super Bowl is this weekend. A certain team made the game. This ad, from a company based in my home state, touches on that. It is the best ad ever. I don’t care if you’re a Colts fan. You’ve had enough glory for one lifetime — and your food is lame and you can’t hold your liquor. ENJOY!” - Ken Wheaton, AdAge
Short and sweet, thanks Ken!
Regardless of what New Orleans as a city has gone through, the Saints have clearly earned their spot and I find it extremely inspiring to see the business community rally behind them the way the have.
WatchMojo wishes everyone a happy Superbowl weekend (even if you’re a clots fan)
So we’ll leave you with a few videos to help prepare you for the big game!!!
These fans are watching the game in the sun, rain and snow and cheer whether their team is winning or losing.
A true fan takes a loss hard and will travel across the league to watch their team.
In this gallery WatchMojo.com takes a look at fans from the NFL that are loyal, loud, and hated by other team’s fans- because that’s what makes a good fan great!
For those who don’t enjoy watching football, the half-time show and the commercials make it worth it all!
We all look forward to see what the brands who have spent millions for minutes of air time have come up with.
There are some commercials, however, that you won’t be able to watch on TV as they were deemed too hot for the big game!
But, then there are some that are controversial, but that will still be shown. Like this anti-abortion ad:
The students at Olathe Northwest High School’s prank backfired when they attempted to pull a prank on Joel Branstrom, one of their science teachers and the girls basketball coach. The plan was to have Mr. Branstrom shoot a half-court shot blindfolded. The students promised him NCAA Final Four tickets if he made the shot. Beforehand, the student assembly was instructed to applaud like crazy after his shot attempt to make Mr. Branstrom believe that he had made the shot, as they all expected him to miss. Mr. Branstrom, however, actually made the shot!!
A just as surprising, but impressive shot was done when a news reporter was covering the story! Watch his swoosh below!

We here at WatchMojo.com know that people love their sports and a true fan sticks with their team through the good and the bad seasons. This gallery takes a look at 11 teams that had some legendary years in the NFL.
We also know that there are many memorable teams, seasons and wins, so to be featured in this gallery the team had to meet certain criteria.
Here it is:
1 - No duplicates on the list (franchise may only be selected once)
2 - All teams must have played in the NFL in the Super Bowl era (post 1967)
3 - All teams must have won a Super Bowl
Wayne Gretzky was unlike any hockey player to come before, or after. Known as The Great One to this day, Gretzky is considered by many to be the greatest hockey player ever to play the game. It therefore shocked Canadians when he was uprooted from Edmonton to go play in Los Angeles, from a market deeply invested in its hockey team to a market where seemingly no one cared about the sport. In this video, http://www.WatchMojo.com speaks with sportswriter Stephen Brunt to learn about what led up to the Gretzky trade, how that trade changed the game forever, and to discuss his book, ‘Gretzky’s Tears.’
This video above from Sportsnet could be the evidence that Burrows need.
Burrows’(notes) accusation that referee Stephane Auger threatened him with retribution before last night’s Vancouver Canucks game and “targeted” him with 16 penalty minutes is under investigation by the NHL, and it’s a pretty thorough one: The League initially anticipated the release of a statement this morning on the controversy, only to push it back indefinitely.
The evidence is pretty damning for Auger, both in his notorious history as an NHL official and in the video clip by Sportsnet that confirms a pregame meeting between Burrows and the official (as can be seen above). However, we’re in he said/he said territory with the player and the ref right now, and the NHL is going to have a hell of a time figuring out where the truth lies. Hence, the investigation continues
Well… this isn’t much of a shocker. It was pretty obvious that McGwire was a juicer when he stupidly dodged Congressional hearing questions with vague answers about “forgetting the past”. At least he finally came clean and can now move forward as the hitting coach for the St. Louis Cardinals. I wonder how long before Clemens and Bonds admit what lying, cheaters they really? Read more from TheSportingNews.com:
Mark McGwire finally came clean, admitting he used steroids when he broke baseball’s home run record in 1998.
McGwire said in a statement sent to The Associated Press on Monday that he used steroids on and off for nearly a decade. During a 20-minute telephone interview shortly afterward, his voice repeatedly cracked.
“It’s very emotional, it’s telling family members, friends and coaches, you know, it’s former teammates to try to get ahold of, you know, that I’m coming clean and being honest,” he said. “It’s the first time they’ve ever heard me, you know, talk about this. I hid it from everybody.”
McGwire said he also used human growth hormone, and he didn’t know if his use of performance-enhancing drugs contributed to some of the injuries that led to his retirement, at age 38, in 2001.
“That’s a good question,” he said.
He repeatedly expressed regret for his decision to use steroids, which he said was “foolish” and caused by his desire to overcome injuries, get back on the field and prove he was worth his multimillion salary.
“You don’t know that you’ll ever have to talk about the skeleton in your closet on a national level,” he said. “I did this for health purposes. There’s no way I did this for any type of strength use.”
McGwire hit a then-record 70 homers in 1998 during a compelling race with Sammy Sosa, who finished with 66. More than anything else, the home-run spree revitalized baseball following the crippling strike that wiped out the 1994 World Series.
Now that McGwire has come clean, increased glare might fall on Sosa, who has denied using performing-enhancing drugs.
“I wish I had never played during the steroid era,” McGwire said.
