We all know that Tim Tebow is God’s homie and all, and that upon being drafted by the Denver Broncos in the first round of last month’s NFL entry draft he immediately became the most highly scrutinized third-string QB in the history of football despite the fact that he probably should have been drafted in the third round and converted into a tight end. But the fact that Teebs has basically created a cottage industry and sated a community-wide need by helping them purge bad memories of a frustrating since-dealt player and saving people money all at the same time? He should get Denver’s starting job just for that.
Tebow, who will wear number 15 in Denver just as he did at the University of Florida, is, to a certain extent, bringing that number back from the dead (that’s a Lazarus reference for Christians scoring at home). You see, for the last few years, it’s been Brandon Marshall’s number. You remember Brandon Marshall. The extremely talented yet temperamental pain in the ass wide receiver who whined his way out of Denver and into a $47 million contract with the Miami Dolphins, where he’s now Bill Parcells and Jeff Ireland’s problem.
(You remember Jeff Ireland. He’s the guy who asked Dez Bryant if his mom was a hooker. Stay classy, Jeff.)
Anyway, since Marshall left a ton of Broncos fans have little to no use for the jersey that they bought featuring his name and number. Except since Tebow’s magical presence has graced the Mile High city some people have figured out that the new franchise player/standard bearer has the same number as the old one. Those people have tried to do what any smart/cheap person would try to do — simply replace the name on their jerseys.
