One of the northern hemisphere’s most prolific meteor showers is the Perseid meteor shower.

It is visible from approximately the middle of July every year and its peak is usually found sometime between the 9th and 14th of August.

Written records about shower date back to about 36 A.D., over 2000 years ago.

It is known that the meteor shower is associated with the comet Swift-Tuttle.

This year, Perseid’s peak activity will take place tomorrow on August 13th, 2011, with the best time to look up into the sky starting from midnight to right before dawn.

The best place to view it would be somewhere where there are few street lights and traffic.

Check out the National Post to find out more specifics about how to get the best view, some of its history and information about local events here.
