The Boss has been all over the news recently for his deluxe reissuing of Darkness on the Edge of Town and its accompanying b-side album The Promise, so invariably he was going to hit the late night circuit. Lucky for us Jimmy Fallon somehow convinced Springsteen to be the only guest of the night last night and he performed 2 songs with a couple of regular bandmates and The Roots backing him up. The real highlight is the performance of “Because The Night”, a song that Springsteen wrote during the sessions for Darkness but left off the album and was then later made famous by Patti Smith. Cover songs are hit or miss. Cover albums even more so. Luckily Gaz and Danny from Supergrass know their shit and the result is the Hot Rats, a high profile (perhaps only in the UK…) cover band with a new album called Turn Ons where they perform songs by everyone from the Beatles to the Beastie Boys. Here they are on Late Nite with Jimmy Fallon performing “Queen Bitch” by David Bowie with a little help from The Roots. Awesome:
