If you don’t know Miike Snow, then contrary to what you may think, the band is not based around a dude named Miike Snow, but is actually a Swedish producing team who decided to make some music together outside of their usual producing work. In any case, the result is some really interesting sounding music that is definitely catchy and definitely Swedish. Their debut album Miike Snow was released 2 years ago, so I’m a bit late on this one, but I’m currently obsessed with their song “Animal”. It also seems like it would be a really hard song to re-create live, so I was quick to search out a performance. After the unexpected success of the song “Young Folks” due to the catchiest whistle line ever recorded, Peter Bjorn and John were always at the mercy of being remembered as “the band with that whistling song”. Their follow up record Living Things was darker and more difficult and was a seen as a direct attempt to distance themselves from the sound everyone associated with them. Their newest record, Gimme Some, is a sort of return to that “expected” sound, but not in a bad way. Peter Bjorn and John now sound like a band confident in their own sound and the result is a stronger and more consistently enjoyable record. The Hives are another one of those bands that are pretty reliable when it comes to videos, but I remember the first time I saw the clip for “Hate to say I told you so” and I thought to myself that these guys would never last… I’m glad I was wrong. The new single “Tick, tick, boom” is fantastic and the video might make it even better! The band members are some how humorous without even doing anything, and with them literally larger than life in this video the goofiness is nonstop. My favorite part is the simultaneous “raising” of the band members, it works to great effect. Check it out here:
