After 3 break-ups and a list ditch reunion attempt in 2008 it now appears that The Verve is done for good. Richard Ashcroft continues to soldier on with a semi-successful solo career and the other band members have drifted to other projects, but it’s apparent that none of them will ever replicate the success and creative achievement of their first 3 albums together, culminating in the near perfect 1997 album Urban Hymns. What a shame. The combination of those musicians together was really something special and nowhere is that more apparent than their 1998 homecoming performance in Wigan, England. Fresh off conquering the music world, the band probably never sounded better and broke up for the second time just months after this show. Here is The Verve performing “Sonnet”. Man its good to have these guys back! The more I hear this new single, the more I like it. The brand spanking new video fits the song well and it seems Richard Ashcroft has been in suspended animation since the band was last in the spotlight. The song is called “Love is Noise” and upon first listen its quite memorable and bodes well for the new album. I still have the sample running through my head 5 minutes after listening to it… that might be a bad thing.
