Teenage Fanclub are back with a new album called Shadows full of perfect power pop tunes, but instead of linking to something new I wanted to include them in this weeks Live Flashback to showcase them performing one of my favorite tunes. Their 1991 album Bandwagonesque is a classic and has no doubt influenced many of todays musicians. You won’t find much better than the guitar and harmonies in this live performance of the song “The Concept”. Enjoy and don’t forget to check out the new album… continue reading...
The always entertaining Ok Go are back with another video specially made for the internet and people who like videos on the internet. You’ve got to give it this band, they somehow keep coming up with incredibly creative, complex and coordinated video ideas. It’s a shame that the music always seems like it’s playing second fiddle to the visuals, but hey, you’ve gotta stand out somehow. The song is called “White Knuckles” and it’s the 4th single/video from the album Of The Blue Colour Of The Sky, continue reading...
At what point does Ok Go become more known for videos than the actual music they’re making? Their songs have almost become background music to the insanely creative videos they continue to come up with. That’s not to say that the songs aren’t good, in fact most of Ok Go’s tunes are quite tight, catchy and agreeable… I’m just saying. Enjoy the time-lapse wackiness of the new video for “End Love”: continue reading...
Alex Chilton died yesterday of a suspected heart attack at the age of 59. He was singer/guitarist for the influential and under-appreciated 1970’s band Big Star. His music inspired a new generation of musicians including everyone from The Replacements to Superdrag to Wilco to Weezer. Thanks for the music, here’s my favorite Big Star tune: continue reading...
Ok Go are so dead set on topping themselves with each successive video that they’ve even starting created alternate versions of their own videos that are even more viral-y. This is surely their most complex yet and probably their best: continue reading...
Ok Go are officially the masters of the viral music video. Others have attempted to beat them, such as Weezer and Feist, but Ok Go are clearly the reigning champs. This new video for “This Too Shall Pass” uses the Notre Dame marching band and some tricky choreography paired with a catchy song that is neither traditional nor a novelty. Good job Ok Go. Click here for the video. continue reading...
The much underrated Superdrag is back with its first album in 7 years, Industry Giants, and a new video for the song “Aspertame”. The album is officially out on the 17th of March but you can hear new tunes at MySpace and check out the video below. Can’t wait to hear the whole album! continue reading...
From NME.com:
Billie Joe Armstrong has hinted that their forthcoming new Butch Vig-produced album could take a “power pop” direction. continue reading...
Superdrag is in my opinion one of the most underrated bands of the last 10-15 years. Their first 2 albums are my favorites and this newly reunited version of Superdrag features all the original band members who contributed to those albums. The band has recorded a new album titled Industry Giants and it will be available in March 2009. Here’s a few words from the band:
The Superdrag reunion was the talk of 2007, their performances at Bonnaroo and Monolith were the talk of 2008, and 2009 will be the year of Industry Giants, the new album from Knoxville’s favorite sons Superdrag. Industry Giants will be the first studio album by the reunited line-up of Coffey, Davis, Fisher, and Pappas since ‘98’s Head Trip In Every Key. continue reading...
As Pitchfork recently reported, New Zealand new wavers Cut Off Your Hands are set to release their debut LP, You And I, in the US on January 20th. The record will be delivered via Frenchkiss Records, the home to Les Savy Fav, The Dodos and Passion Pit. Like the band’s sophomore EP, Blue on Blue, You and I was produced by Suede’s Bernard Butler, and features the bouncey, razor-sharp rock that’s been winning over fans since the 2006 release of the band’s self-titled debut EP. Check out the frantic video for “Expectations,” and the audio for the first single from the album, “Happy As Can Be,” below. Fresh off a string of successful CMJ shows, the band is currently touring Europe and Australia, before they’re slated to return to the US in 2009. continue reading...
