As I had previously suspected, this is pure garbage. It’s hard to see what both parties were thinking even releasing this song to the public, let alone creating it in the first place? This is still only one song from a whole album of songs called Lulu, so maybe it’s still to early to pass such harsh criticism, but this really does not bode well. Wow, can’t believe I haven’t featured Metallica yet in the Live Flashback series! I chose “Fade To Black” from Ride The Lightning because I think it’s a great song that captures both the melodic capabilities of the band as well as the crushing power of the musicians together. “No Shelter” has always been one of my favorite Rage Against The Machine songs and it’s effectiveness as a protest/political message is even more powerful when performed live. The song is directly accusing mass media of manipulation and attacks consumerism and corporate advertising. This is all the more interesting considering the song was never featured on a RATM album and was released on the Godzilla movie soundtrack. There’s even a line in the song that says, “Godzilla, pure motherfucking filler, get your eyes off the real killer“. Classic. Besides the message in the song, it’s also worth mentioning the underrated rhythm section Rage has. You can sometimes forget how solid they are when Tom Morello is blowing your mind with a solo, but “No Shelter” is a great showcase for the rhythm section, especially bassist Tim Commerford.
