WOW. Never, ever thought this would happen. I thought there was more of a chance that Pink Floyd reunited for a tour than there ever was for The Stone Roses. It just seemed that there was too much hatred amongst band members and too much satisfaction in knowing that what they had created had aged to legendary status. I guess in the end, the money is far too appealing. Not that I’m complaining… I will do anything to see the band play if this tour actually happens. I’m just not sure that I’m ready for any new music from the band. It would be impossible to re-capture the 20 year old magic that produced their near flawless debut and less perfect, but still amazing 2nd album. Then again, it could be good. Maybe great. continue reading...
Despite being one of the more influential bands of the early 90’s, The Stone Roses are still fairly unknown (relatively speaking) outside of their native UK. This is even more suprising when you consider that they created one of the greatest albums of all time in their 1989 self-titled debut, The Stone Roses. It’s actually quite hard to find quality videos of them performing live, but I did manage to find this interesting 1995 performance with half decent footage of “I Wanna Be Adored”, one of the many incredible songs from the ’89 debut. On display is the amazing guitar playing of John Squire, the massive sound from a 4-piece and the frontman abilities of Ian Brown, which would go on to influence Liam Gallagher for decades. This video comes from a show in Atlanta during the Second Coming tour. Enjoy: continue reading...
It’s 2010 and Oasis are now a part of the past which in many ways is probably a good thing. Rewind things 15 years ago and Oasis are the biggest band on the planet and creating a bit more than 2 albums worth of incredible music. This performance from 1995 show’s the band at the height of their creativity, when a song like “Whatever” doesn’t even make it onto an album and is released as a stand-alone single. The song is terrific and factor in that Liam’s voice doesn’t have 10 years of cigarette smoke damage and a full string section is accompanying the band… you’ve got a classic live performance. Part of the Manchester music scene, The Doves are a three-piece rock ensemble consisting of brothers Jez and Andy Williams and Jimi Goodwin. This is the second incarnation for the Mancunian boys: their first band, Sub Sub, was a dance-act that garnered one hit, 1993’s Ain’t No Love (Ain’t No Use). In 1996, a fire at Sub Sub’s studio forced the band to regroup and make a hard decision: to continue, give up, or rebuild their band. From those ashes, The Doves were born. Today, the band makes melancholic, melodic rock and is on their fourth album as The Doves. In this video, WatchMojo.com chats with Andy from the band about the importance of track sequencing, and about whether or not the band is jinxed.
