Despite being one of the more influential bands of the early 90’s, The Stone Roses are still fairly unknown (relatively speaking) outside of their native UK.  This is even more suprising when you consider that they created one of the greatest albums of all time in their 1989 self-titled debut, The Stone Roses.   It’s actually quite hard to find quality videos of them performing live, but I did manage to find this interesting 1995 performance with half decent footage of “I Wanna Be Adored”, one of the many incredible songs from the ’89 debut.  On display is the amazing guitar playing of John Squire, the massive sound from a 4-piece and the frontman abilities of Ian Brown, which would go on to influence Liam Gallagher for decades.  This video comes from a show in Atlanta during the Second Coming tour.   Enjoy: continue reading...

beady-eye.jpg

The first song from Beady Eye, “Bring The Light” had a mixed reaction, some loved the song, some railed on it.  I thought it was ok, but needed to hear more from Liam’s new band before making a decision.  The latest song to make its way to the internet is called “Four Letter Word” and definitely should elicit a different reaction from fans.  This is a hard driving song and more along the lines of what people expected (I think…).  Anyways, check it out below and stay tuned for more. continue reading...

beady eye group

So after a very brief teaser yesterday, Liam Gallagher and his new band Beady Eye have released their first tune for free download… and it sounds nothing like the teaser?  The song is called “Bring The Light” and features a pounding piano progression that drives the song forward and Liam’s vocals, which sound quite decent, supported by some tasteful backup vocals and bright guitar fills.  It’s quite the rollicking tune and although it does seem to distance itself a bit from the ”Oasis sound” (Liam’s voice notwithstanding), it’s still using the same old tricks by borrowing sounds from the Stones and Beatles.  Not that that ever stopped me from loving Oasis…  All in all, an interesting first tune from Liam and the gang.  I’m now quite curious to hear the rest of the songs they’ve come up with.   I’m going to assume they don’t stray too much from “the formula”, but if the tunes are good then who gives a shit.  Download “Bring The Light” from the widget below: continue reading...

beady eye liam gallagher

It’s not much, but it’s the absolute first sounds out of Gallagher’s new project, Beady Eye.   The band features ex-Oasis bandmates Gem Archer, Andy Bell and includes drummer Chris Sharrock.  Below is a 20 second snippet of music that doesn’t even feature any vocals from Liam.  Despite the brevity, I’m still intrigued.  Looking forward to hearing more in the months to come. Check it out: continue reading...

oasis whatever single cover art

It’s 2010 and Oasis are now a part of the past which in many ways is probably a good thing.  Rewind things 15 years ago and Oasis are the biggest band on the planet and creating a bit more than 2 albums worth of incredible music.  This performance from 1995 show’s the band at the height of their creativity, when a song like “Whatever” doesn’t even make it onto an album and is released as a stand-alone single.   The song is terrific and factor in that Liam’s voice doesn’t have 10 years of cigarette smoke damage and a full string section is accompanying the band… you’ve got a classic live performance.  Enjoy, continue reading...

Liam’s band is essentially Oasis, minus Noel.  But… Noel basically WAS Oasis.  So this should be interesting.  Liam’s had a few semi-interesting tunes on Oasis albums over the years, but an entire album of his songs could be a disaster.  On the other hand, perhaps he’s blossomed into a respectable songwriter, or has enlisted more help from his talented band-mates (Gem Archer and Andy Bell were both in quality bands before Oasis).

All to say, I’m pretty curious to see how this plays out.  The Gallaghers are never boring and Noel’s reaction should be fun. Read more below from Chartattack.ca and check out one of Liam’s better tunes: continue reading...

Apparently Liam is passionate about music, AND fashion… who knew? The company is called Pretty Green, after a song by The Jam, with nothing to do about environmentalism. In any case, hear about it from the man himself: continue reading...
