In a Live Flashback double rarity I’m only flashing back one day into the past and I’m re-featuring a band I’ve already featured.  Double rare!  Anyways, The War On Drugs made their network television debut on the Jimmy Fallon show last night (01/11) and wow was it great.  Not only is “Baby Missiles” a fantastic song, but you throw in ?uestlove as a 2nd drummer and you’ve got yourself a classic performance.   Sprinkle in the fact that they’ve got a Jimmy Fallon lookalike on keyboards and it’s truely memorable.  Slave Ambient was my 2nd favorite album of 2011 and this band deserves as much attention as they can get.  Catch them on tour if you can! continue reading...

Jimmy Fallon has bands covering Pink Floyd songs all week long.  The first stab is The Shins and their take on “Breathe”.  It’s a pretty faithful cover and they do a good job.   Check out Fallon’s site for the other bands.  Hint: Pearl Jam is one of them!   Enjoy: continue reading...

springsteen-because-the-night.jpg

The Boss has been all over the news recently for his deluxe reissuing of Darkness on the Edge of Town and its accompanying b-side album The Promise, so invariably he was going to hit the late night circuit.  Lucky for us Jimmy Fallon somehow convinced Springsteen to be the only guest of the night last night and he performed 2 songs with a couple of regular bandmates and The Roots backing him up.   The real highlight is the performance of “Because The Night”, a song that Springsteen wrote during the sessions for Darkness but left off the album and was then later made famous by Patti Smith.  The guitar dueling outro is pretty much the coolest thing I’ve ever seen.  Check it out below and head to The Audio Perv for the rest of the interviews/performances, continue reading...

Wow, I assumed this would be good considering The Roots are backing them up and Timberlake is a talented dude, but this is a pretty amazing medley of classic to modern Hip Hop songs.  Even Fallon holds his own!  Enjoy: continue reading...

green day band

Jimmy Fallon has dedicated this entire week to the re-issued Rolling Stones album Exile On Main Street and has a different band covering a tune from the album each night.  Monday night saw Green Day cover “Rip This Joint” and they do a pretty solid job.  Should be interesting to see who else performs… continue reading...

Cover songs are hit or miss. Cover albums even more so. Luckily Gaz and Danny from Supergrass know their shit and the result is the Hot Rats, a high profile (perhaps only in the UK…) cover band with a new album called Turn Ons where they perform songs by everyone from the Beatles to the Beastie Boys.  Here they are on Late Nite with Jimmy Fallon performing “Queen Bitch” by David Bowie with a little help from The Roots.  Awesome:
