If you don’t know Miike Snow, then contrary to what you may think, the band is not based around a dude named Miike Snow, but is actually a Swedish producing team who decided to make some music together outside of their usual producing work.  In any case, the result is some really interesting sounding music that is definitely catchy and definitely Swedish.   Their debut album Miike Snow was released 2 years ago, so I’m a bit late on this one, but I’m currently obsessed with their song “Animal”.  It also seems like it would be a really hard song to re-create live, so I was quick to search out a performance.   Here is the very Scandinavian looking band doing a very admirable job with the tune in the middle of a forest.  Enjoy: continue reading...

Self-recorded in their own PA studio, Slim & Slender is the brand new 4-song EP by jubilant pop sextet The Spinto Band.  The vinyl and digital only collection, out this week via Park The Van, gives us a little taste of what we can expect from the band’s next LP, also self-recorded, which is due out in 2010. Expectations be damned. The Clips could care less what anybody thinks a rock band should sound like these days. Hell, it’s 2008, and computers are taking over the world, so why not the dancefloor too, right? Armed with a modified-to-hell G3, a baby grand, and a whole slew of synths, Edo Van Breemen and his cohorts in The Clips (not be confused with the smiliarly-named, dope-pushing Virginian duo of Pusha and Malice, although we’d pee our pants for a collabo) create a world of noisey squelches, strangled 1s and 0s, and clattering drums bolstered by an insistent piano lurch, a few guitars, and Breemen’s melancholic voice.  Having shared stages with Holy Fuck and Metric, and with a brand new record, Matterhorn, clutched firmly to their bosoms, the quintet seems primed for their unlikely close-up. Just peep the sullen, deceivingly-dense “Wire” for proof. continue reading...
