With the new single “Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall” released last friday, Coldplay have now begun to perform other new songs live from their as yet untitled new album. On June 4th at the German Rock Am Ring festival they performed the following new songs, “Hurts Like Heaven”, “Major Minus”, “Us Against The World” and “Charlie Brown”, as well as the aformentioned new single. One thing that I enjoy doing is searching for concert footage of a band before they hit the mainstream. It’s even more fun when the band in question eventually grows into one of the biggest bands in the world. Back in 2000, Coldplay was nothing more than a mildly popular UK band with a popular single called “Yellow”. Their debut album Parachutes was quite good and did hint at things to come, but I doubt anyone, let alone the band, could have predicted the level of fame they would acheive. This performance at a 2000 festival in Germany features Chris Martin acting goofy (nothing changed there), the band looking stiff and a glaring lack of theatricality that now exists in their live performance. My taste for Coldplay has gone up and down over the years, but this song “Trouble” reminds me of how good they were right off the bat and it remains my favorite song that Coldplay ever wrote. The band’s name is Tokio Hotel and apparently they’ve sold over 6 million records around the world, but have yet to break into the American market. They’re set to give it a shot with their first english sung record Scream. But hold on… before we go any further I have to make it clear that the lead singer(3rd from left) is in fact a Male, and not Female. You won’t believe me, but its true.
