So, 5 years go by and the Chili Peppers are back, but this time without secret (or not so secret) weapon, guitarist John Frusciante. The result? A new album called I’m With You with new guitarist Josh Klinghoffer. After a few listens, I’m still not sure what to think. It definitely sounds like the band of old, but that’s not necessarily a good thing. Too many songs go by that just don’t do anything for me. Luckily there’s a few songs that are real keepers. Perfect example is “Brendan’s Death Song”. Great vocals from Keidis, solid guitar work from new guy and an extended outro featuring Flea running up and down his fretboard like a madman and Chad Smith literally bashing the shit out of his drum kit. Amazing song and sure to be a big single. Enjoy: continue reading...
With the Red Hot Chili Peppers set to splash back into the music scene with their first new album in 5 years it seemed fitting to feature them in the Live Flashback of the week. The album is called I’m With You and the first single “The Adventures Of Raindance Maggie” is all anyone’s heard in advance of its August 30th release date. The single is definitely RHCP-ish, and it has grown on me, but it hasn’t done much to expand their sound or move things forward. Guitarist -extraordinaire John Frusciante has departed and the band has claimed that this is a “new beginning” and a “rejuvenating re-birth”. I’ll reserve my judgement on those statements until I hear the entire album, but the first single definitely hasn’t proved anything. It will be hard to replace Frusciante. Need proof? Check out the intro to their classic performance at Slane Castle in 2003: continue reading...
