The Boss has been all over the news recently for his deluxe reissuing of Darkness on the Edge of Town and its accompanying b-side album The Promise, so invariably he was going to hit the late night circuit. Lucky for us Jimmy Fallon somehow convinced Springsteen to be the only guest of the night last night and he performed 2 songs with a couple of regular bandmates and The Roots backing him up. The real highlight is the performance of “Because The Night”, a song that Springsteen wrote during the sessions for Darkness but left off the album and was then later made famous by Patti Smith. The guitar dueling outro is pretty much the coolest thing I’ve ever seen. Check it out below and head to The Audio Perv for the rest of the interviews/performances, continue reading...
No compilation of ‘Live Performances’ is complete without a performance by The Boss. “Thunder Road” is my all-time favorite Bruce Springsteen tune and I recently came across this high quality version of the song from 1979. If you’ve ever seen Springsteen perform then you know what your in for, but if you haven’t this should give you every reason you’d ever need as to why this guy is one of the best performers in the history of Rock and Roll music. Enjoy the video and be sure to stick around until 4:10 for some piano-top guitar playing followed by sax solo from the Big Man sandwiched by a powerslide on the knees by Springsteen himself: continue reading...
The Gaslight Anthem are back with a new album called American Slang and it’s a good one. I listened to a stream of the entire album a few days ago and was amazed at how focused and relentless it was. Definitely one of those albums that immediately grabbed my attention on the first listen. For a band that’s supposedly straight up ripping off Bruce Springsteen’s blue collar, working-man style of music, The Gaslight Anthem sure can write appealing tunes that stick in your head. This weeks Mp3 is the title track, but I could have easily selected 3 or 4 other tunes from this album that are of equal or greater quality. Not sure what it is, perhaps it’s the heartfelt lyrics and delivery, or perhaps the simple guitar lines paired with a charging backbeat, but this is a great song. Check it out: continue reading...
