On the heels of the sad news that REM is breaking up, they rightfully deserve to be featured in this weeks Live Flashback. Their influence and impact may have tailed off a bit in the last decade, but there’s no denying the effect they had on the music of the 80’s and 90’s. The song I chose to feature(on the suggestion of our CEO aka Luke Skywalker) is “Orange Crush” from their breakthrough album Green, performed at PinkPop in 1989. The sound isn’t great, but the energy is infectious and a good example of the band performing in their prime. REM will be missed, thanks for the music guys. continue reading...

After his little brother Liam was the first to release any post-Oasis music with his band Beady Eye, all eyes fell on Noel Gallagher to see what his next move would be. It turns out that he’ll be releasing 2 new solo albums in the next year with the first one being released October 17th, 2011 under the band name Noel Gallagher and the High Flying Birds. A second album will follow in 2012, this one being a collaboration with Amorphous Androgynous (aka The Future Sound of London), an electronic band from the UK. continue reading...
It’s with fairly sad news that I present this weeks selection for Mp3 of the Week. I recently discovered that a talented, but underappreciated band that I’ve followed over the years has called it a day. It seemed to me that Clothes Make The Man had all the pieces of the “bullshit puzzle” needed to make it in the music industry, they worked hard, but most importantly had a great sound, a great lead vocalist and more catchy songs than 5 other bands combined. But, alas, they broke up. I’m not sure exactly why, but you can probably easily guess the reasons. Anyways, the band decided to release the album they were working on for free on their website. The album is called Distance, and as I expected, it’s jammed with great songs and makes me confused and angry that a band such as theirs wouldn’t be recognized as a winner and picked up and pushed by a label with half a brain. continue reading...
With today’s announcement that The Stills have broken up, I thought it would be appropriate to list my Top 5 favorite songs from the band. I’ve really enjoyed their music and live performances over the last 10 years and am truly sad to hear that they’ve broken up. Thanks for the music dudes. Here’s my list: continue reading...

What a bummer… Supergrass has been one of the most consistently enjoyable bands over the last 15 years or so and I’ll be sad to see the musicians stop making music together. They flirted with fame, almost had a “Monkees style” show, and almost lost their bassist after he sleep-walked out of a 2nd story window… in the end it comes down to the old stand-by, creative differences. Read more from NME and enjoy a couple of my favorite Supergrass tunes: continue reading...
Scarlett Johansson is really making a go of this music career I guess… This collaboration with Pete Yorn is a bit more understandable compared to her odd Tom Waits cover album of a few years ago.
