I had the priveledge of seeing the Rapture live not more than a couple of weeks ago and they really impressed me. I liked them enough to scour the web for a while for tunes, videos, bios, etc… and I really enjoyed this video. The sound of this song is pretty much explained by the title and also is a good representation of The Rapture’s sound in general. Upbeat and danceable with memorable sounds. The video uses a combination of great retro animation a la School House Rock and live action shots of the band. I especially like the shot where the guitarist raises his instrument up to his hands with animated lightning bolts… sick. Check out this video and give The Rapture a listen if you haven’t already:
There’s nothing like a video with puppets to give you a new perspective on a song. “Modern World” is a song off of Wolf Parade’s debut album, Apologies to the Queen Mary, and its a pretty good snapshot into them as a band. Its got a shuffling drumbeat that seems to be propelled along by a repeating guitar line, ragged vocals that seem like they’re going to crack but never do, and paranoid lyrics that look at a fear of technology. The video takes the puppet version of the band to places you’d never anticipate and somehow it totally makes sense… in a warped sort of way. The puppetry, or stop-motion animation I guess, is really well done and the “machine” at the end is pretty impressive and somehow extremely creepy. Check out the clip and enjoy the ride:
