It was pretty easy to take for granted how amazingly talented Amy Winehouse really was. At some point her abilities as a vocalist, songwriter and musician were simply overshadowed by the press coverage of her addictions and erratic behavior. It’s unfortunate that her untimely death was the reminder everyone needed. Addiction is a horrible sickness that has claimed far too many young and exceptional people. What a shame… Thankfully Amy’s music will live on. RIP. continue reading...
In honour of Amy’s big night at the Grammy’s I thought I’d feature her as this weeks MP3. The song “Valerie” comes from DJ/Producer Mark Ronson’s latest album called Version. In fact this song, isn’t even Mark Ronson’s song, Version is entirely made up of covers. ”Valerie” is written by another English band called the Zutons, but the way that Ronson and especially Winehouse transform the song it almost doesn’t matter who wrote it. Winehouse flat out blows the roof off with her vocal performance and if you never really “got” her before based off of that “Rehab” song, then this one will make everything much clearer. Ronson has somehow reworked the song into a Motown beat and Winehouse runs with it. Crank this one up:
