So earlier this month I was in LA doing a little business, but mostly there for vacation. I arrived on July 4th and decided to stay at The London West Hollywood, which was probably the best decision I’ve ever made. Not just cuz of the roof top pool, or the view, or even the fact that Gordon Ramsey has a restaurant there, but because I ended up meeting a very special group of people. During one of my many smoke breaks, I ran into a dude named Aaron who was nice enough to invite me to hang out with him and his crew in their private cabana. The drinks were flowing, the beats were bumpin’ and the girls were bangin’ (figuratively speaking of course). continue reading...
Ok, so Cut Copy always had a bit of a psychedelic edge to their electro-rock sound, but based on the album art and an in-studio video preview of their new album Zonoscope, things are going into strange new directions…. Check it HERE continue reading...
Let’s face the facts, Justin Bieber makes horrible, horrible music. But!! It just so happens that there is actually a way to make his music listenable. All you have to do is slow it down 800% and you get an oddly beautiful, Sigur Ros-esque, ambient sound. Granted the song is now 35 minutes long, but its an amazing transformation. Somehow this was figured out by a producer named Shamantis. I know… sounds like bullshit. Here’s Bieber’s “U Smile”, just listen: continue reading...
As opposed to the typical “concert” performance footage that I’ve posted in the past, there is another type of clip that I really enjoy stumbling across, and that’s the in-studio live performance. Sure, it’s a much more controlled environment without much of an audience and perhaps a lack of spontaneity, but it almost always features some deadly focused musicians ripping it up on their instruments. A perfect example is this Wilco performance of a tune called “Impossible Germany” off their 2007 album Sky Blue Sky. The tune is technically complex with multiple guitars layered over each other and also features an extended Nels Cline solo that might be my favorite guitar solo of all time… might be (it starts around the 3 minute mark). There’s also an interesting afterword from lead singer Jeff Tweedy on the lyrics and how the song came together… Bonus! A truly great song and performance: continue reading...
Singer. Songwriter. Producer. Re-mixer. Multi-instrumentalist. Label Owner. Any one of these talents might be enough. But to have experienced success with all of them? There aren’t many artists who can make that claim, but soon any one who listens to the radio will be able to add K. Drew to that list. continue reading...
I cannot wait to hear the rest of this album. So far the only sounds have been audio snippets and youtube live videos from performances around the globe, but this clip is the first full studio version of a song by Them Crooked Vultures featuring Dave Grohl, Josh Homme and John Paul Jones:

Rocco Deluca’s last record was a huge debut with over 100K albums sold and prompted five-time Grammy winner Daniel Lanois (U2, Bob Dylan, Emmy Lou Harris) to reach out to Rocco to produce Mercy. Check out this brand new video that shows Daniel in the studio with the band: continue reading...
Jack Black has told Entertainment Weekly that his two-man band with Kyle Gass, Tenacious D, is back in the recording studio. Since the band released their film, Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny, the band has not come out with any new music. Their next foray in the studio, however, will likely not produce an entire album, and probably only one song. But, hey, it’s better than nothing. Read more… continue reading...
After spending the last six months hard at work on his next project following the critically acclaimed Back to the Lyrics, Chicago MC Bullet is back to unleash the first single off his up and coming THE LOST JABBAWOCKEE.
