If you don’t know Miike Snow, then contrary to what you may think, the band is not based around a dude named Miike Snow, but is actually a Swedish producing team who decided to make some music together outside of their usual producing work. In any case, the result is some really interesting sounding music that is definitely catchy and definitely Swedish. Their debut album Miike Snow was released 2 years ago, so I’m a bit late on this one, but I’m currently obsessed with their song “Animal”. It also seems like it would be a really hard song to re-create live, so I was quick to search out a performance. Here is the very Scandinavian looking band doing a very admirable job with the tune in the middle of a forest. Enjoy: continue reading...
As Muppet-mania hits an all-time high, we continue to get some classic moments from the gang in the lead up to the movie release this weekend. In this clip, Kermit and Bret McKenzie (of Flight Of The Conchords fame, who wrote all the songs for the movie) perform the sure to be classic tune, “Life’s A Happy Song”, with very amusing results. Man, isn’t it good to have the Muppets back? continue reading...
The most amazing thing about this clip might be the reminder that Dennis Miller once had his own show?! But seriously, Dennis Miller is a moron… Anyways, for most people in 1992 Matthew Sweet came out of nowhere with the album Girlfriend and its title track single, and rightly so, nothing really sounded like it at the time and still today, nothing really sounds like this song. continue reading...

On the heels of the sad news that REM is breaking up, they rightfully deserve to be featured in this weeks Live Flashback. Their influence and impact may have tailed off a bit in the last decade, but there’s no denying the effect they had on the music of the 80’s and 90’s. The song I chose to feature(on the suggestion of our CEO aka Luke Skywalker) is “Orange Crush” from their breakthrough album Green, performed at PinkPop in 1989. The sound isn’t great, but the energy is infectious and a good example of the band performing in their prime. REM will be missed, thanks for the music guys. continue reading...
Portishead is either a band that you like, or you don’t like, but as you’ll see in this performance, there’s no denying the sonic beauty they can create. It also helps when you have the New York Philharmonic Orchestra backing you up. The band is set to tour this fall and if you’ve never paid attention before, then now is the time to check them out. Then track down a concert ticket. Enjoy: continue reading...
