Tennis is a husband and wife duo who’s backstory is just as interesting as their music. I was initially turned off by the name (Tennis? Come on…), but after one listen to the new single, “Origins”, I was sold. The song has a charmingly retro feel that skips along with perky piano stabs, but it’s Alaina Moore’s fantastic vocals that really power the song. Tennis’ 2nd album is called Young & Old and will be released February 14th, 2012. Until then you’ll have to play ”Origins” over and over again. Enjoy: continue reading...
With Feist set to release her new album Metals on October 4th (which you can now stream online) it seemed appropriate to feature her in this weeks Flashback. This particular solo performance of “Mushaboom” was my first exposure to Leslie Feist and I pretty much fell in love with her immediately. Her moniter apparently cuts out mid song and she confusedly stops playing, but after a quick chat with the sound man she has no problem recovering. It’s a memorable performance augmented by her impossibly sweet vocals and under-appreciated guitar playing. I’m glad Feist is back. Enjoy: continue reading...
As I had previously suspected, this is pure garbage. It’s hard to see what both parties were thinking even releasing this song to the public, let alone creating it in the first place? This is still only one song from a whole album of songs called Lulu, so maybe it’s still to early to pass such harsh criticism, but this really does not bode well. Take a listen to “The View” below: continue reading...
This is some deadly serious hard rock. Metallica and Lou Reed should take a lesson. Ok, just kidding… but seriously, Mastodon have continued to impress me with their bone crushing, progressive sound. It’s not my thing all the time, but they’re definitely the at the top of the Heavy Metal heap. Stream the entire new album The Hunter here: continue reading...

Coldplay continue to perform new songs from their upcoming, as yet untitled new album. Last night they performed the song “Charlie Brown” and it’s the best new tune I’ve heard yet. Oh and I guess they’re pretty good at the whole soaring, arena-anthem performance style. Check it out: continue reading...

Two previously unreleased songs from the Arcade Fire’s recording sessions for The Suburbs have found their way to the web. The titles are “Speaking in Tongues” and “Culture War” and both sound like they’d fit quite nicely, both thematically and sonically, alongside the other official album tracks. Check them out: continue reading...
